der verfasser hat wohl die ausarbeitungen von wilhelm kühne bzgl. der retina-photographie in die hände bekommen .-))
Dear Sir,
As I understand you have offered £500 to anyone by whose advice or assistance Jack the Ripper is arrested.
I can tell you a way by which he might perhaps be recognised if a fresh murder is committed.
I must tell you that when people meet with a sudden death the last image of things seen can be reproduced on the retina of the eyes by exciting the ocular nerves.
Should a fresh murder take place, let the face be covered over until a doctor and a photographer reach the spot; then let the eye be drawn a little way out of its hollow and take three photographs viz. (1) of the illuminated pupils. (2) of the illuminated eye with the nerve of sight excited by electricity. (3) of the eye not illuminated, with its nerve of sight excited.
The illumination can be effected by a little incandescent lamp to the back of the eye through an artificial hole.
If I had a few particulars, and as the description of the man who is said to have been several times seen, the exact times of the murders and the nature of the wounds, whether they are clean cuts, what sort of knife was probably used, whether the cuts are always alike and therefore indicated a practised hand, I would try to take up the matter here; especially as it is supposed that Jack may bo on board a German cattle steamer or passenger steamer. Perhaps I am indeed in possession of a clue. The description is, full round face, height about 1.60 metres, and short thick set figure. The clue goes from London to here and Bremen, and thence to Nuremberg.
Yours truly
