Meine Meinung:
Ich habe das Buch zugegebenermaßen noch nicht fertig gelesen – spreche aber dennoch schon mal eine Empfehlung aus. Der Autor bindet Dew`s Memoiren nahtlos in die Beschreibung der Fälle ein, an denen Dew beteiligt war. So bekommt man zum Beispiel im Fall Jack the Ripper eine sehr schöne neue Perspektive präsentiert, werden doch allzu oft einfach nur die Fakten heruntergeleiert und ein paar Spekulationen eingebaut. Schon alleine aus der biografischen Intention des Buches heraus wird dies hier größtenteils vermieden. Auch die anderen Fälle dürften den Ripperologen interessieren und das eigene Wissensspektrum um einige weitere wertvolle Facetten bereichern. Der Crippen-Fall, der Dew endgültig weltbekannt machte, verdient Aufmerksamkeit und bildet einen großen Teil im Leben des Polizisten. Nicht umsonst benannte er seine Autobiografie nach diesem Fall: „I caught Crippen“.
 
Dies ist kein Ripperbuch – sondern wirklich eine Art Biografie Dews, verknüpft mit dem Basiswissen seiner Arbeit und seiner Fälle. In Anbetracht der Bekanntheit Dews jedoch uneingeschränkt für Ripper- und Kriminalinteressierte zu empfehlen.

Ich fand lediglich, dass die Jugend Dews ein wenig knapp behandelt wird – doch dies mag auch an mangelnden bekannten Informationen liegen.
